Event Recap: Transforming Properties Through Connection – A Spark for Wellington’s Future
Wow, what an incredible event! We were blown away by the number of attendees and the electric energy everyone brought to our Transforming Properties Through Connection event. On 12 September, 70 to 80 attendees representing developers, consultants, real estate professionals, city council members, and the general public joined us at our offices for a night of networking, nibbles, and transformative discussions. Our goal was to reignite a sense of leadership in Wellington by bringing people together to create a shared vision and strategy for a positive impact on the city.
The evening began with networking, drinks, and many new introductions before transitioning into the formal presentations. We were privileged to have a distinguished panel featuring Ben Castle from Tommys Real Estate, Peter Croft from Wellington City Council, and James Solari from Solari Architects. Each shared unique insights on the potentials for developing Wellington and how we can collectively influence the city’s future.
James Solari opened the discussion with case studies from Brisbane, where private sector leadership and vision transformed run-down areas into thriving precincts like Fish Lane and James Street. The key takeaway: leadership can come from anywhere, and it’s possible to create a vision that both the private sector and the council can rally behind.
Ben Castle spoke passionately about changing the narrative around Wellington, urging the media and public to focus on positivity and the city’s potential. His message was clear—if we all play our part, we can shift the tone and create momentum for change.
Peter Croft brought a valuable perspective from Wellington City Council, discussing their urban strategy work following the new district plan. His team is focused on prioritising key areas for investment to create ripple effects that will stimulate private sector involvement. His presentation underscored the importance of public-private partnerships in bringing about meaningful change.
The night ended with a dynamic Q&A session, where attendees expressed their hopes and frustrations for Wellington’s future. What stood out was the collective passion in the room—people care deeply about this city and are ready to contribute to its revitalisation.
